The Year that flew by!

I can't believe it's December 2021 and Christmas is upon us..

November is always frenetic.

We have just completed our annual shearing and are awaiting our fleece stats. This gives us a guide as to whether our breeding programme is advancing as planned! It's not an exact science.

The herd now look very slim and trim - apart from being shorn they have their teeth and toenails trimmed and get their annual vaccinations.

We have also been to the Albany Agricultural Show with this years cria drop - just 2 of them this year so after weaning and halter training they had a little adventure.

Milo, our very pretty brown girl, picked up a second place ribbon. Blackjack was out classed by a few others. He is such as gentle boy and has now been wethered and was delivered to his new home in Denmark yesterday where he'll be looking after some very special Runner ducks as well as being company for an older Alpaca whose mate had recently died. It is such a wrench when they leave us.

The New Year will bring the next cria drop - most due to "unpack" between January and March and having used a new stud male to introduce some new genetics, we are keen to see the outcome.

In the meantime our 3 stud males are looking for more stud work, so if you have any girls you'd like to introduce new genetics to, consider one of these 3.

Our new float finally arrived and had its maiden outing to the Albany show - being a horse float, the two little Alpacas looked quite silly in it, but it does the job and offers more flexibility for us than a custom designed Alpaca float.

That's it for now. All the best to you all for the festive season.
