Well, like so many others, a post Covid life has got in the way of writing this blog!

Not that it hasn't been busy, very busy!

Our stud has been active., but our breeding program was interrupted by other mis-adventures, A trip to the Antarctic in 2020, resulted in Covid and a 7 week lay off in unplanned isolation, after which the world pretty much shut down for a while. More recently family health issues have taken the focus off our breeding program!

We're back on track and currently have a visiting stud male, Petrie, to introduce some new genetics. His first offspring are due in March.

Our own stud males have been reduced to one and currently he, Silverkarri Brecon, is having an idle time, much to his frustration. A few more Suri Alpaca breeders have discovered the Great Southern of WA so we have been fortunate in being able to arrange some select matings from a few more local stud males.

Being a 5 hour trip from the Perth region, we are somewhat discouraged from using the stud males up there. Matings are not a one off event, and require a prescribed mating program over several weeks,

Our breeding herd comprise a few whites, several blue blacks, a couple of gorgeous fawns and a few browns, the latter a consequence of mating some of our blacks with our white stud, Pablo, who sadly is no longer with us - he broke a hip, probably in a fight with one of the other stud males.- and had to be euthanised.

Having produced mainly females in the past few years, which is generally a good thing, we've had no wethers to sell and the demand is high, so for once, it might have been useful to have produced a few more boys.

The next 2 years should result in some interesting new genetics. Watch this space.
